In 1899, the first of five Sutton generations started the 15,000 acre ranch.
In 1906, buffalo were introduced. This ranch is part of the family way
of life. The Missouri River is the back fence of the ranch. This herd was the oldest,
privately-owned buffalo herd in the nation. Today, grandson, Steve, maintains some of the original herd, his family's interest in the buffalo industry
and buffalo hunts on the ranch. The ranch is located in
central South Dakota on the Missouri River. The entrance is 40 miles north
of Pierre, SD, on Highway 1804.

Buffalo Hunts
Ranch Location:
From Pierre, SD, at Hwy 14 and 1804 junction, take Hwy 1804 north 38.5
miles. Proceed west 1 mile.
From Onida, SD, go west 13 miles, then north 7 miles on Hwy 1804.
Proceed west 1 mile.
The Hunt:
Cost per hunt is $3,500. A non-refundable $1,000 deposit will be
necessary to reserve your hunt dates. The head and and hide are
yours. Taxidermy work and meat processing is the hunter's
responsibility, but we will happily help coordinate these items.
Buffalo meat will be available for sale at an additional cost.

Lodging:
Lodging will be at your own expense. We will be glad to assist you
in making your lodging reservations and providing you with
transportation to and from the Pierre, SD, airport. For lodging we
recommend "Cheyenne Ridge Hunting Lodge," located on Hwy 1804 north of
Pierre. This is a new lodge about 20 miles from our ranch.
Cheyenne Ridge offers indoor pool, hot tub, two bars, great Missouri
river views, single occupancy rooms, three meals per day set up on
hunter's schedule. They will also cook a buffalo meal in the
evening at our request. Their rates are $175.00/day. We will
provide transportation from Cheyenne Ridge to the ranch. Camping
is available on the ranch with electricity and water.
Hunts are available on a first come
basis. A limited number of hunts are available.
